Meditation is practiced by people from all walks of life, including some of the most successful entrepreneurs of recent decades. Meditation has been scientifically proven to benefit individuals with stressful workloads, where research has demonstrated that it increases productivity, immune systems and positive habits, just to name a few.

But don’t just take our word for it… let’s see what these four successful entrepreneurs have to say:

Steve Jobs

When Steve Jobs (the co-founder of ‘Apple Inc.’) was 19, he spent time in India and became mesmerised by the practice of meditation. Jobs even pioneered a form of meditation he called “mind technology,” which is currently used by companies including Target, Google and Ford to increase staff productivity and focus.

“If you just sit and observe, you will see how restless your mind is. If you try to calm it, it only makes it worse, but over time it does calm, and when it does, there’s room to hear more subtle things–that’s when your intuition starts to blossom and you start to see things more clearly and be in the present more. Your mind just slows down, and you see a tremendous expanse in the moment. You see so much more than you could see before.” – Steve Jobs

Russell Simmons

Russell Simmons, the founder of ‘Def Jam Recordings’, has been meditating for 20 years. Simmons regularly teaches meditation practice, and he has written books and even created apps on the subject. Simmons begins his days with a 20 minute meditation session, which he undertakes with a monk by his side. Simmons states that these sessions lead to a productive and effective day.

“The first, most important thing about meditation is happiness. You become a happier person when you meditate.” – Russell Simmons

Jack Dorsey

Jack Dorsey is the CEO of both Twitter and Square, so it’s fair to say he has a lot on his plate. In order to clear his mind and prepare for his busy days, Jack wakes up at 5 am every morning and meditates for at least 30 minutes. To maintain his two major companies, Jack must maintain a tight schedule – and meditation is a big part of his daily routine.

“I look to build a lot of consistent routine. Same thing every day. Allows a steady state that enables me to be more effective when I do have to react to something out of band,”  – Jack Dorsey

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is a candid spokesperson for mediation. She meditates twice daily – 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening. Oprah’s belief in meditation is so strong that she has meditation experts working in her company (Harpo Productions), in order to teach other employees beneficial meditation techniques. Oprah recently joined with Deepak Chopra, a guru, on a 21 day meditation challenge to help with weight loss.

“The results have been awesome. Better sleep. Improved relationships with spouses, children, co-workers. Some people who once suffered migraines don’t anymore. Greater productivity and creativity all around.” – Oprah Winfrey, on the benefits her employees experience when meditating regularly
