Meditation and sleep
Smart phones, laptops, Television, work pressures and the fast pace of life are some of the many contributing factors as to why people are simply not getting enough good quality sleep. A 2012 study showed that sleep deprivation strongly impairs human functioning and affects overall mood significantly. The general lousiness felt after a bad night’s sleep saps productivity and can also cause irritability, bad eating habits and loss of focus on tasks. In turn, if these negative factors are not addressed, they can often lead to poor physical health, anxiety and depression.
In reading this, are you just hanging out to curl up under a heavy duvet and fall asleep right now, simply at the mention of sleep? As difficult as it may seem, it is certainly possible to achieve sleep of high quality with some meditative assistance.
Tiredness Increases Stress and Anxiety
Sound familiar? The practice of Streamline Meditation uses a specific state of mind that allows you to gently enter the meditative state, resting your body and mind. People who meditate experience less stress and anxiety, and this reduction allows them to think more clearly and enjoy a healthier sense of well-being.
Why We Need Sleep More Than Ever
A lot of physical restoration occurs during sleep: it’s not simply a time when our minds and bodies shut down. Sleep is vital for optimal human functioning, as it replenishes what we used up during the day. The less sleep you get, the less time you have to replenish.
In the workplace, managers and employees are often overwhelmed with constant information and distractions, now more than any other time in history. While smartphones are a gift in many ways, they act as consistent negative reminders of all the stressful things we need to complete. More than ever, the demands of work rob the average employee of sleep.
Meditation allows you to enter a specific state of mind which is calming, and centred: these are some of the key ingredients for both high-quality meditation and a good night’s rest. Meditation fundamentally brings one’s mind to the present and prevents it from drifting into concerns about the past or future.
